Dinosaurs ruled the planet for over a hundred million years. If we compared brain/body size of some of these huge creatures to us, our brains would be no larger than a pea.
Scientists who spend their entire careers studying this stuff tell us we homo sapiens attained our present brain size of around 1350 cc as recently as 200,000 years ago. How is it then that these behemoths, weighing as much as a hundred tons, with their tiny little brains, could survive for over a hundred million years, while we humans with our over sized brains seem to be peering into the abyss of our own extinction after being here 1/500th of that time?
Could it be we haven't learned how to use our brains?
Consider this. If there is a god, it is he/she/it that gave us this wonderful gift of a brain. Refusal to use it is tantamount to refusing his/her/its gift. As those familiar with the Christian bible (regrettably few) know, the first recorded murder in human history was committed over the rejection of a gift. Genesis: "And the LORD had respect to Abel and to his offering: 5 But to Cain and to his offering he had not respect." Abel wound up dead over that.
Christmas is just around the corner. If someone gives you one of those big clear plastic bags full of tube socks for a Christmas gift, don't let your beneficiary see you standing in the return line at Wal-mart the next day.
Somebody could get hurt.
Just something to think about. Or not. Thinking is hard work. You may want to take another day off. Lots of football on the tube today.

Why do you tie yourself in knots over religion when all you have to do is take Jesus up on his FREE offer of salvation.

This is a simple comment, but it ignores the issues raised. As a fundamentalist Christian, even I recognise the problems Charlie has raised. We, of all people, should be open and honest and be willing to, "Give an reason for the hope that lies within us". That should include honesty and openness. Your response lacks one or both of these. I shall try to do just that. First, he presents facts that are readily available, many coming directly from the Bible. Secondly, our whole religion is based on faith not facts. Our New Testament uses the word "faith" 237 times , but not one time is the word "fact" used. Our faith is a hope that we will have salvation based on a Bible we have certified to contain the "facts" by using our faith. You can't use faith to establish "facts" and then use that assumed set of "facts" to prove our "faith" Do you see the problem? To complicate matters, even with our assumed source of facts (our Bible)we Christians can't agree on just what the "facts" really are. This has resulted in thousands of churches with differen doctrines all claming to have the truth. So what should be our response? If truthful, it will be, "My faith is a result of a set of beliefs acquired because of my parents, friends, or community. Based on our trust in them and our being able to find scriptures within Our Bible to re-enforce that faith (finding scriptures that support whatever doctrine we have) we cling to a hope or faith that can't be proven. It is afterall just something hoped for. It may or may not be supported by facts." I personally have learned to accept that FACT!
