In "The Purpose Driven Life", Rick Warren writes: "The moment you were born into the world, God was there as an unseen witness, smiling at your birth."
Psst, hey God....you seem to be missing a few. Every year 15 million children under the age of 5 starve to death. That's 28 every minute; one nearly every two seconds. An additional 10 million (19 per minute) age 5 an under die each year from disease.
More than a year has passed since Rick Warren took an abominably long 4 minutes and 21 seconds to utter his Inaugural prayer. In it he proclaimed, "You are loving to everyone you have made." Oh yeah? Tell that to the parents of the 222 kids 5 years or younger who died of starvation, and disease just during the 4 minutes and 21 seconds you were blathering away to your captive audience.
If god was listening I hope he felt as embarrassed as I did. Sadly however, like all prayers to an imaginary god, there is no evidence Rick's god heard his prayer. As a matter of fact we have lost well over another 25 million children to starvation and disease since that prayer of thanks went into cyberspace.
I heard today (Dec 25th) that the pope was going to pray for peace. Of course the last pope prayed for peace every year also. He even set aside a special day to pray for peace. Maybe this one will have better luck.
We should know by next week at the latest.

Hammer meets nail: that has always been my problem with religion. If He created us all, why is He so mean to some? That pope: what a joke. Almost as useless as ricky.
ReplyDeleteI am loving your writing!

Rick has to be congratulated on his fund raising ability, but the thing about "unseen witness" is that if it is unseen, how do you know he was smiling. One of grandsons noticed this fact years ago when he was only 7yrs. old. He asked me, "How do we know what Jesus said in his prayer on the mountain, if everybody was asleep?" The only sensible response was, "Ask your grandma". She gave a typical convoluted response preachers often give and that was it. A few years later he figured out the answer. Someone made it up.
