Faith

Faith is not a reason. Uttering “because I have faith”, only changes the question from why do you believe to why do you have faith. The only difference is that you removed “evidence” from the list of possible answers.

Faith is simply believing something is true because you want it to be true. That is neither honest nor something to base real world decisions on.

Faith is what brought down the World Trade Center and caused trillions of dollars of damage to our economy. Faith is the reason we are required to remove our shoes at airport security check points. Faith will eventually destroy civilization.

Consider Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman. Their faith requires them to believe that they have a "revelator" as head of their church. His name is Thomas Spencer Monson. Mr. Monson receives messages directly from god, you see, and passes the info down to his minions which in turn dispense the revelations to the membership.

Many like to proclaim that religious views of Presidential candidates should not be examined or questioned. I completely disagree. I think it would be legitimate and fair to ask Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman the following questions.

1. Is there any way to know what messages your revelator may receive from your god? If there is, then what need do you have for a revelator?

2.If not, then what if your revelator, Thomas Monson, received a message from god that we should attack a foreign country, for example? (Or provide your own what if here)  Would your allegiance allign with god's will or the will of the American people?

3. If your answer is that your allegiance would lie with the American people, then how can you call yourselves Mormons? Your "Elders", the 20 somethings that knock on my door, tell me god is foremost in their lives. Are you telling me that a Mormon President would listen to we the people before he would listen to god through his revelator?

Its time we started questioning the beliefs of those vying for leadership of our country as well as the delusional beliefs of all our politicians.

  1. "Faith is simply believing something is true because you want it to be true." This is the point I make on a daily basis. Two days ago I pointed out to my wife, her sister, and husband that our scriptures can't be accepted on faith. How could the writers know the exact (inspired) words of things spoken in private 70 years after the supposed event? I explained how writers constructed their writings to support their beliefs (faith). This was an accepted practice at this time. Of course they disagreed, so I asked how did they know what Jesus prayed since the scriptures said they were all asleep. Even our six-year old grandson asked this one. They gave all this nonsense about about inspired writers. I gave up and left the room but heard my brother-in-law say to them, "I'm sure glad I'm not educate3d". Charlie, this is the problem; people choose and are proud of their ignorance. The Tea Party promotes this policy. The will elect only people of delusion. Sad, but true!

Well there we have it. An education, that is to say, thinking, takes work, and why work when all we have to do is show up two or three times a week and let someone else do the thinking for us?

These people love the part of the bible that says something to the effect "unless ye become as little children". Little children don't have to behave like responsible adults. Daddy does the thinking for them.

  3. The problem I have is that I have examined how, when, and why our scriptures were constructed. I have compared Acts considered by believers to be actual history with both history and what Paul said in his letters. His history incorrect in many places and he contradicts what Paul actually said. Acts was written between CE 90 and 120 CE to connect Paul's Greek Christ to the Jewish Yeshua (Jesus) movement in Jerusalem. It worked. Paul was and still is hated by this group as well as being hated by orthodox Jews today. If you have any analytical skill at all, a careful examination will reveal this fact. I see our Christianity through the eyes of Mithra and Dionysus, not the Jewish Abraham, Moses. and Yeshua tradition. Early Jews also pointed this out, but writers crafted letters to explain it away.
