  1. A clear unambiguous statement by the Bishops. Here it is:
"The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops denounced President Barack Obama's compromise over whether to require religiously affiliated institutions to provide contraception to female employees, saying the proposal raises "serious moral concerns," according to a statement posted on its website late Friday.

"Today's proposal continues to involve needless government intrusion in the internal governance of religious institutions, and to threaten government coercion of religious people and groups to violate their most deploy held convictions."

Let's see, "to involve needless government intrusion in the internal governance of religious institutions," must also mean we can allow our preachers, priests etc. to continue molesting children, practice fraud against its members, and remain tax exempt when we compete against other businesses that do pay tax and have intrusion in the governance of its business. I must be missing something.

  2. Charlie, while we are at it let me give you an example of "good old time religion". The Baptists are also having problems with government intrusion.

"PHOENIX — A fight broke out during a funeral at a Phoenix church after a friend of the departed punched a man who had reportedly been fighting with the deceased before he died.

Phoenix police said the fight broke out Friday afternoon at St. John's Institutional Baptist Church, when the unidentified friend recognized the other man and punched him "in honor of the fallen."

The Arizona Republic reported that many of the other people attending began fighting, but there were no injuries and no arrests when officers broke up the scuffle.

Phoenix TV station KSAZ said the fight involved up to 30 people.

    'Dignity'
"I don't know ... everybody was just running and fighting and it was just crazy," a mourner told KSAZ.

"Sad that it has to be at a funeral. Real sad," another mourner said.

Neither the person who instigated the fight nor the man he punched was identified.

KSAZ said the funeral was for a 20-year-old man, Moses Taylor, who was killed last month after allegedly breaking into an apartment. The TV station said he was hit in the face with a clothes iron by a man who lived there. NOTICE HE WAS BREAKING INTO THE GUYS APARTMENT!

Lt. Sean Connolly, of the Phoenix police, told the TV station that "funerals are emotional for people, and we understand that," but also said, "there is some dignity that needs to be had."

  3. Priceless.

I can still remember my Dad laughing while he was telling the story about preacher Phillips at Silent Hill Baptist church, getting his knickers in a wad about some disagreement he had with the members and announcing from the pulpit that he could "whip any man in the house."

To his credit, preacher Phillips didn't threaten to send the vast majority of the population on our planet to ever-lasting agony. Took Gentle Jesus Meek and Mild to do that. (John 14:6)

I sometimes have a wild imagination but even I couldn't make this stuff up.
