Mormons and Blacks

Below is a portion of an article from Look Magazine article Oct 22nd 1963, which examines the doctrine of the Mormon Church as it pertains to blacks.

In the Look Magazine story, William B. Arthur, managing editor of LOOK, is interviewing  President Smith,  head of the Mormon church, about an article in the Deseret News, a Mormon publication dated July 14, 1962. He asked President Smith of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake, to comment on the article.

“The Negro cannot achieve priesthood in the Mormon Church,” President Smith said. “No consideration is being given now to changing the doctrine of the Church to permit him to attain that status. Such a change can come about only through divine revelation, and no one can predict when a divine revelation will occur.
“I would not want you to believe that we bear any animosity toward the Negro. ’Darkies’ are wonderful people, and they have their place in our Church.”

Don’t forget…Romney has stated publicly that he believes in the faith of his fathers.
The problem becomes immediately apparent.  Doggedly clinging to and endorsing your ancestors faith is a fool’s errand because your ancestors are now dead and the faith they took with them to the grave cannot be altered or abridged.
