June 20, 2001
Houston, TX
The entire nation was shocked and outraged on June 20, 2001 when the evening news channels reported that Andrea Yates, mother of five young children, age six months to seven years had just murdered them all by drowning them in her bathtub.
Noah, 7, John, 5, Paul, 3, Luke, 2 and Mary, 6 months. According to her own testimony, Noah, the oldest, gave her the most difficulty. He caught on to what she was doing when he discovered her drowning his 6 month old sister. She admitted to having to chase little Noah through the house and drag him back to the bathroom to meet his death. She lined the four youngest up on the bed and left Noah floating face down in the tub.
Imagine for a moment that Andrea Yates was your neighbor. How likely do you think it would be that you would turn to her for advice on raising your own children?
Yet Christians seem to have no compunction in turning to god for advice on raising children, all the while knowing he drowned all but eight of his own.
Ain't religion great?
