Why I Won't Give Up

The most common question from my supporters is this.

Why do you waste your time with these people who are so smug and self righteous in their beliefs? They are never going to see the light of reason and logic so why bother?

I will let Isaac Asimov answer for me.

"Imagine the people who believe such things and who are not ashamed to ignore, totally, all the patient findings of thinking minds through all the centuries since the Bible was written. And it is these ignorant people, the most uneducated, the most unimaginative, the most unthinking among us, who would make themselves the guides and leaders of us all... I personally resent it bitterly."

When I see our youngsters minds being infected with crap like the Creation Museum in KY (at a cost of 27 million) the billions spent by the Catholic church defending their pedophile priests, the thousands of murders committed on 9-11 and the resulting trillions of dollars it has cost our economy and on ad-nauseam...I resent it bitterly.

When I look around and see all the bright young individuals who cannot afford a decent education, and people who cannot afford health care while we spend billions upon billons fighting unwinnable wars... I resent it bitterly.

At 74 years of age, I refuse to give up the fight against ignorance.

Charlie, actually our 19-29 year-old group indicated in a survey that 70% leave the church by age 23. Evidently they they agree with your sentiments. This upsets parents and they feel guilty saying things like, "Where did we go wrong." My answer is, "You didn't! They are grown adults and can think for themselves. They can't buy talking snakes, donkeys, and dead people rising out of the graves. Normally any rational thinking person would also reject these stories." This always gives them something to think about. I hope they can get off the guilt trip.

  2. Exactly Jim.

When I read your comment I thought of something Robert Ingersoll wrote:

"If we are in any way, bound by the belief of our fathers, the doctrine will hold good back to the first people who had a religion. In other words we would all be barbarians.

You cannot show real respect to your parents by perpetuating their errors. If you wish to reflect credit upon your parents, accomplish more than they did, solve more problems they could not understand, and build better than they knew. Why should a son or daughter who has examined a subject, throw away their reason and adopt the views of their parents? Is not such a case dishonorable to both?"

That is exactly the problem. Our religious right, extremist Muslims, and Zionist Jews still hold to beliefs of those in our O.T. It is your duty to kill your enemies. God commanded it!
